Sustainability: Body & Earth
Limited Capacity filling up

In this intensive, we'll dive into the five elements of yoga: earth/prithvi, water/apas; fire/tapas; air/vayu; and ether/akasha. We’ll honor our deeply intimate connection to the planet, recognizing that all we have comes from the earth and how these 5 elements manifest in our own bodies and all of the living beings with whom we share space.

Through practice, we'll explore the possibility of slowing seemingly insatiable appetite for more more more and find balance in the elements within us and beyond.

Yoga & Recovery
Limited Capacity seats available

Whether you are a member of a 12 step recovery program or not, most of us are looking to recover or heal from something in our lives, whether it be from patterns of behavior we are looking to change or from relationships that keep going in a direction that prevent us from receiving the love and intimacy that we truly desire.
In this workshop we will explore different behavior patterns that lead to isolating behavior and how distractions such as drugs, alcohol, food, smoking, sex and shopping separate us from the Atman, the divine, true uncluttered nature of ourselves.  We will discuss addictions to drama, adrenaline and focusing on other people’s problems (co-dependency).
Then, we will review the 12 steps of recovery to gain insight on some of our old habits (samskaras), some of which are so engrained that we might not even be aware of them or that they compromise our self worth or step over loved one’s boundaries.
We will move through a sequence of poses while invoking each of the 12 steps that allows us to practice being with the unmanageability of early recovery and flowing through to ultimately taste the bliss of emotional sobriety and altruism, incorporating yoga into our recovery on and off the mat.

The Power of Stillness
Limited Capacity filling up

Yin & Nidra Workshop we will dive deep into the body and mind using an artistically woven and challenging Yin Yoga practice followed by a Yoga Nidra. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect compliment to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. While initially, this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

Every super-hero must go through the proper training in order to take flight. Focusing on steady progression, arm balances and inversions require firm resolve, solid technique, and firm integration of alignment and breath. Shapes such as crow, eight angles, headstand and handstand require use of the core, the breath and the use of energetic locks called bandhas. This workshop will cover those poses which require one to hover above the ground or have the feet or hips above the head, with the connection being the hands, forearms, and head. Arm balances and inversions have as much to do with overcoming fear and infusing one with boldness confidence as much as advancing the asana practice. With diligence and dedication, the inner Hero is revealed.

The breath is intimately connected to our ability to create a more therapeutic practice and the beauty of the breath is that we can tap into it’s effects anytime, in any practice.  This class will dig into how to use the breath to magnify the therapeutic impact of your work on the mat. We’ll begin with a brief overview of the anatomy of the breath then transition through a breath-centric practice designed to help you tap into the breath in a way that you can utilize anytime you like, on or off your mat.  The flow portion of this class will incorporate different pranayama practices into a therapeutic flow to help create a calm sense of invigoration to prepare you for a full day ahead.  Most importantly, you will gain an understanding & experience of the breath as well as some tools that you can tap back into in any practice, anytime.  Open to all levels with some vinyasa experience.

Flow Yoga for Empowerment & Self Expression
Limited Capacity filling up

Somatic Flow and Yin is an All Levels Hatha Flow and Yin Yoga workshop accompanied by live cello by Brooke German that will lead you through an experiential understanding of how the ancient practice of yoga can serve to awaken somatic intelligence. The word somatic is derived from the Greek work Somatikos, which means "of the body". Somatic Learning techniques invite you to differentiate subtle levels of sensations within your body and connect to the breath in a way that releases habitual tension as well as connecting to your body's own self-organizing and renewing intelligence. This playful Hatha Flow and Yin class will have you laughing, learning, relaxing and integrating new ways of relating to your body's immense wisdom.

Brooke German is a classically trained pianist, vocalist, and cellist, and she has been a practicing yogi since 2007. As a soloist, Brooke has played for yoga classes and meditations in the Asheville area. She layers rhythm, melodies, and her voice through live looping offering a raw and organic sound.

Steep Yourself In Unexpected Potential
Limited Capacity filling up

This workshop includes stories, discussion and a physical journey of the human ego. In many yoga traditions, the ego is defined as your individuality. The problem is we tend to solely identify with our individual self, and forget our connection to all that is around us and that deep, unchanging, universal part of ourselves. This Universal Self holds potential beyond words. Please join in this slow, mindful workshop as we move from our individual self to our Universal Self as a tangible, fun and even playful experience -- an experience of discovering the potential in the most unlikely place.

Martial Fusion® Aikido Ukemi Drills
Limited Capacity seats available

Martial Fusion® Aikido Ukemi Drills is a series of rolling, falling, and ground techniques based on Aikido (The Way of Harmonious Energy) and Misogi (purification rituals through breathing). Since ancient times purification rituals have been used and develop by humans to attain higher levels of understanding and awakening as well as mind-body-spirit renewal through what the Japanese Shinto calls Misogi, a cleansing ritual through deep conscious breathing practice. This conscious breathing is essential for the development of Ukemi (the art of falling) in Aikido training. The energetic and flowing circular movements, allows the practitioner to move beyond fear of falling, creating a new perspective and attitude towards movement and life itself.

Buti Yoga Glow

Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Buti Yoga is a powerful blend of tribal dance and primal movements, plyometrics, and vinyasa-style yoga. This unique style of yoga incorporates movements that our bodies crave, and that our body’s systems flourish from. This practice helps balance hormones, chakras, and we nourish the health of our endocrine system. In short, Buti Yoga packs a BIG punch. Buti unlocks your full potential; it activates the spark that dwells deep within you waiting to be let out. It celebrates your feminine energy. It celebrates everyone’s feminine energy. Because you don’t have to be female to have feminine energy. Everyone has shades of masculine and feminine, light and dark, yin and yang. From the music and infectious group energy, Buti won’t be like a typical yoga class either! Buti is all about moving to the beat, so the songs are all about the beat, too. Buti is all levels friendly and entirely approachable. You begin where you are, with what you have. And through this journey, you learn acceptance, compassion, and self-love. You will find a nice mix of tribal dance with hip-hop flair, woven throughout upbeat songs that keep the practice going strong from start to finish. “Buti” is a Marathi Indian term for “the cure to something that’s been hidden away or kept secret.” Buti is a practice of going within to discover your true power and full potential. It becomes the cure to any previous disillusionments of fear, lack, or weakness. Buti shows you what you’re truly capable of, and that is the secret that you unlock with this practice.

Neuroimmunology, Neurodynamics & Yoga
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

We tend to think about the nervous system & immune system as separate entities, but research is showing more and more how intimately connected & inseparable these 2 systems really are.  The nervous system is one of the main underlying mechanisms for what we can explain of the effects of many yoga practices, so as we expand our awareness of the ever-growing scientific information on this system we must also rethink our approach to our practice.  This class is a must for anyone who uses yoga as a therapeutic modality, it will challenge you to both simplify & think outside the box, remembering the beauty & power of what we do so well in yoga and opening our minds to some new techniques & applications as well.  This class will begin with a lecture that looks at how the nervous system & immune system interrelate and interact.  We’ll look at the implications of what this means to our perception and response to stimulus & pain and how to apply this information to a yoga practice that supports these systems.  The yoga practice that follows will be a gentle practice with a very different vantage point and a new perspective to your practice.  Come ready to dig deeper and explore your practice with fresh eyes.  This class is all levels, open to anyone with some yoga experience and a desire to learn.

Rest is essential. In rest we heal, gain powerful insights, and renew. In this class, we will begin in a seated position with simple breath work to connect us to our bodies. From there will we practice 4-6 Restorative (supported) postures, each for 10-15 minutes, allowing the body, heart, and mind to settle. As we settle into the support our whole being naturally gains deeper access to what is essential, to what is sacred within. We will end with a long held savasana and guided deep relaxation. *Please bring a pillow and a blanket if you have available.

Be present, connect with nature and have fun! SUP yoga is a unique way to experience your practice. The added challenge of balancing on water heightens your awareness of body alignment and requires that you pay attention now. Connect deeper with the five Elements of nature present in our outdoor classroom and also present inside of each of us. One of the best reasons to enjoy SUP yoga is floating Savasana. It could be the most relaxing pose you’ll ever experience! In this class we’ll start with a quick intro to the board, paddle, leash and PFD (personal floatation device), followed by an intro on how to stand up and basic SUP paddle strokes. From there we’ll launch onto the river and paddle to the anchor system that will keep our boards anchored for class. After our yoga class on the boards we’ll paddle back to the take-out.

NOTE: No prior SUP experience necessary and you can paddle on your knees in the beginning if you don’t want to stand up. SUP beginners and never evers welcome! ALL LEVELS!

The pick-up and drop-off for all SUP classes is located on Market Street near the Bhakti Stage. There is a clearly marked sign at this location and it is also marked on our festival map. The van will LEAVE at the time the class is scheduled to start, so plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early. There will be no refunds for missed excursions. If you miss the van, you are welcome to drive to the put in, address is Woodfin Park 1598 Riverside Dr, Woodfin, NC 28804.

What to Bring: ~ Wear quick dry (lycra, bathing suit etc..) clothing that you don’t mind getting wet – note that if you fall in and there is a breeze you may want a long sleeve shirt to put on – please don’t wear cotton as it gets heavy when it’s wet and doesn’t wick moisture. ~ A strap for your glasses or sunglasses – FYI if you don’t wear a strap and you fall in you will lose your sunglasses/glasses. ~ Sunscreen ~ Water bottle ~ Towel and a change of clothes for after class ~ Water shoes/sandals for launching on and taking off the river

Gravity & Grace
Limited Capacity seats available

This Arm balance and Inversions workshop empowers students to have fun with their fear, often achieving what they may have previously thought not possible. We’ll cover the foundations of setting up an arm balance for newer students, while more advanced practitioners are encouraged to try and explore various up- levels. This workshop is accessible for all levels. Flying is like a great fire of courage – once that flame is ignited – it never goes out. Arm Balances and Inversions can be some of yoga’s most challenging yet fun poses to practice. Learn to safely defy gravity, starting with a single breath. In this workshop you will strengthen your core to better support your arm balances. We will build upper body strength which will help support and build healthier wrists, elbows and shoulders. We will guide you to engage the legs, so they don’t take refuge in Savasana. Begin cultivating awareness of your body in an upside down position and moving through space, while surfing from one pose to another. Yoga should be satisfying and fun, not a chore full of fear. This workshop will launch you there.

Holy Hips Batman
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Ready for a hip-opening flow? Get prepared to fly high! Physically, the hips act similarly to the Grand Central Station; many muscles and forces come together and are distributed through the rest of the body. The weight of the upper body comes into the pelvis and it is the part of the body that separates your upper from your lower body. The hips have many deep and strong muscles that are needed for stability, movement and mobility. Tension in the hips is not only caused by mental stress or physical fitness, lifestyle, age, genetics, physical accidents, and traumas, but collectively these have an impact on tightness in the hips. The psoas is an important and big muscle in the body that is involved in almost any movement of the body. As the primary hip flexor, tightness in this muscle can lead to misalignment in the legs and low back. This class will focus on strengthening and opening different areas of the hips. We will combine vinyasa flow, cardio and holding poses, core work, deep hip-openers and backbends. We will work towards Eka Pada Galavasana or Flying Pigeon.

Yoga and Addiction

We are all addicted to something.......to our thoughts, ideas, beliefs.  We walk as if blind, in the dark- reacting and responding merely by habit.  Thinking happiness is obtained by getting our “wants and likes”, we constantly chase one immediate gratification after another.  With Yoga, we learn that True Happiness is found by changing our thinking, our habits, and therefore our reactions and responses. We learn to realize the true gift of this human experience!

Join Rosie for this invigorating mixed flow class in which the asana is meant to challenge- placing our bodies in familiar and then unfamiliar shapes.  By practicing sitting in a little discomfort in the poses, we can prepare for the daily discomforts of life, learning to face them with Grace so we may become stronger in order to fulfill our reasons for being on this earth.  You will leave with a new tool box, filled with golden nuggets to enhance your daily living right now.  This class will be filled with vigorous asana coupled with long seated holds - all meant to mimic life on the mat so that you can learn to live off the mat

Finish up with a taste of Rosie’s home-made, organic Kombucha after a short Yoga Nidra and Savasana

Psoas Release Party
Limited Capacity filling up

This workshop is not really a party, but I love the name; and in my experience, if my psoas is tight and releases, it feels like a celebration! Come join in for an exploration of the mind-body connection as it relates to one of the deepest, most complex muscle groups in the body. This muscle group has been discovered to affect our mood and health, otherwise known as the muscle of the soul. This muscle group is key to a balanced, well-organized body and mind and it is closely linked to our fight or flight response. Without actually attaching to the pelvis, it crosses over the front of the pelvis and connects to the legs and spine, therefore problems may show up in other parts of the body: knees, pelvis, hips, neck/shoulders, sciatic and low back. It also can affect your breathing since it ties into your main breathing muscle, the diaphragm. We will look at how the abdominals and gluteal muscles play a roll in a healthy iliopsoas - expect affective some core work. This workshop is good for people who enjoy geeking out on how the human body functions. There will be a thirty-minute lecture followed by an asana practice and questions will be taken throughout the workshop. Please come ready to learn and release your hips in this all levels workshop.

Voice of Change: Find Your Voice & Speak Your Truth
Limited Capacity seats available

It is time for our voices to be used in the service of healing and change. But so many of us are terrified of our authentic voice that we bury it, silence it or cover it up. What if we trusted our vessel and courageously gave ourselves permission to speak our truth? What if the world was calling us to become voices of change? What if our voice was necessary for the healing of our world? In this workshop, designed specifically for teachers and students who feel blocked in their expression, we will discover the authentic voice within and enhance the potency and power of our self expression as facilitators and change makers. The practice will focus on specific sequences designed to release long held traumas in the 5th chakra. We will learn the ancient art of bridging sound and asana as we move through powerful standing postures, liberating balance postures and voice activating backbends. As you release, listen and find your voice, you will then be supported in taking steps to become an effective agent of change - using self expression to support social justice and creative evolution. Voice of Change invites our embodied truth to become our message, our medicine and our direct action. Dive into this ecstatic immersion into the heart of soulful self-expression and discover your ability to live, express and embody your truth. Become a Voice of Change!

Detox Flow
Limited Capacity seats available

It’s time to liberate your hips and free your spine. Opening the hips begins by cultivating awareness of the challenges we hold in our hips and pelvic region. We can begin to relax and strengthen the quads, the inner and outer muscles of the thighs and stretch the hamstrings. While unlocking this area of our bodies we will also free the spine with twists which can infuse the body with vitality and well being and release enormous amounts of tension. Twists are associated with toning and rejuvenating the abdominal and pelvic regions. When these regions are engaged, blood flow naturally increases and toxins are released – a natural internal massage. Relaxing and strengthening these areas releases lower back tension and frees limitation in the neck and shoulders. This very fun workshop is great for beginners, intermediate advanced practitioners and teachers who want to learn how to up level in creative ways and also provide a safe foundation for their beginning students.

ALL LEVELS!

Druminyasa Flow
Limited Capacity filling up

Drumming was the earliest form of tribal communication and has been used to celebrate significant ceremonial gatherings in many primitive cultures. Our daily lives are infused with rhythm; elements of nature, change in seasons, and life cycles. We connect with the elements: earth, our roots… where we’re from sustains us. Water nourishes our souls while reminding us to go with the flow. Air feels wild, free and full of possibility. Fire ignites the passion within to bring those possibilities to life! Navigating through this life, we are one with the elements. Feel the vibrations of the drums as you connect breath, heartbeat, and mind with the animal of your body.  Join Becky “Tara” Eschenroeder of Great Abiding Yoga and percussionist Brad Ellsworth of Druminyasa as tune into your primal nature while getting in touch with your creative spirit.

Yoga For Womens Health
Limited Capacity filling up

The systems and cycles within a woman’s body are perhaps the most intelligent & awe-inspiring that biology has produced and yet it’s still an area of the body that is often overlooked in yoga.  The beauty of this system is often obscured by societal and cultural taboos and an overall lack of education and awareness of the these incredibly complex and refined processes.  However, awareness & yoga postures can be a brilliant way to support the different stages of this cycle both preventatively for healthy, balanced hormones as well for a host of different endocrine & reproductive challenges.  Yoga course & books notoriously mention cure-all poses for things like PMS or fertility but there is no explanation for why or when to use them. In this class we’ll talk on the 4 phases of the female reproductive cycle and the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine as it applies to female physiology to give you a better perspective on the application of yoga for this system.  Then we’ll experience a practice that looks at poses & modifications to support this intelligent internal system.  Understanding our physiology and applying Chinese Medicine principles can be an efficient & effective way to understand and individualize a yoga practice to meet our unique female needs (as well as those of our students). This class begins with a lecture to understand this unique system and is followed by a practice to bring those concepts to life.  This class is open to all levels with some vinyasa experience.

Yoga Off The Mat: Crafting Liberation and Leadership for Our Time
Limited Capacity seats available

his course is designed for anyone wanting to discover, refine or expand their purpose in the world and live a life dedicated to justice and inside out transformation. We in the yoga communities like to say that we stand for liberation. But what does that liberation look like and who is it available and accessible to? If our goal is collective liberation, this requires an on going commitment to a personal journey of introspection, healing and accountability that allow us to participate in an effective way. As we step into personal accountability for our own healing, we can then examine the social and systemic issues that shape our world view and actions. Then utilizing the powerful tools of embodiment, collaboration and connection, we can co-create a collective vision of a sustainable, just and joyful future for all beings. This class will move us through a full series of vinyasa flow warmups, standing poses, balance poses and closing poses, as we play and explore our edges- the limitations/fears that keep us hidden, as well as the opportunities/strengths needed to stand in purpose. We will then move off the mats and into a collective expression of the power and gift of community.

Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

This 2 hour workshop introduces meditation, breathing exercises, and guided deep relaxation practices to unpack the personal stresses that take us out of alignment within our daily lives and use that knowing as fuel to move deeper into our practice. One of the biggest challenges with starting a meditation practice or attempting to integrate embodied relaxation techniques is relaxing the mind and body enough to begin. Chelsea’s workshops are committed to working with practitioners who are new and possibly overwhelmed by not knowing where or how to begin a meditation practice. Through gentle yoga movements, breathing exercises, guided meditation, and opportunities for reflection, Chelsea’s technique will guide you into sustainable and practical ways to begin a daily meditation practice that will support clarity, and provide ways to harness internal power through the breath. This mini workshop is ideal for all levels of practitioners and will engage brief moments of journaling. All participants are asked to bring a journal, writing utensil, and any additional props like a blanket or layered clothing are recommended.

Alignment Off of The Mat
On our mats and in our asana practice, we focus on our body’s alignment. However, alignment with our values is just as important off of our mats. Our values are our standards of behavior, our judgement of what is important and our way of being that we hold most important. They are who we are in our lives, what we hold most sacred. Our values are our inner touchstones. In this workshop, you will discern your top values, define behaviors that support our values and how these show up in our lives. Lastly, you will create a reminder of your values to take with you.
